Meeting politic continues between KIO and Junta

A meeting had been took place between Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), an ethnic arms organization, and Burma army yesterday in the Kachin State capital Myitkyina, without yielding no compromise result, according the source closed to the organization.

It was the 10th time KIO delegates meet with Burma army representative, since Burma junta proposed Border Guard Force plan to all ethnic arms organization in the country. The Saturday meeting was led by KIO’s Gen-Sec Lahkyen La Ja and Kachin Independence Army’s Vice Chief-of Staff Brig-Gen Sumlut Gun Maw, the source said.

Analyst closed to KIO believes that Burma army has no plan to solve ethnic arms organization by political means. At the same time, it just trying to synchronize the right timing to wage war against major ethnic arms groups like KIO in accordance with regional and international politics, he said. Otherwise Burmese junta might lose it’s grip in power.

A resident in Laiza, the border town where KIO headquarter located, said the situation there is tranquil as just before the storm is coming closer.

During the last meeting between KIO and Burma army at the end of September, KIO trying to discuss the working plan between KIO’s health, education and agriculture department with the junta’s ministries for development of Kachin State, instead of keep focusing on Border Guard Force plan.

Burma army want KIO’s arms wing Kachin Independence Army to transform Border Guard Force under the control of Burma army. In return, KIO want its arms wing to transform Kachin Regional Guard Force under its own control.

KIO was founded in February 5th 1961, striving for independence Kachin Land.
