Cuba and Myanmar reaffirm cooperation agreement

Cuba and the Union of Myanmar reaffirmed on Tuesday a cooperation agreement during the second session of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission that took place in Havana aiming at strengthening bilateral ties.

The agreement covers several sectors such as trade, biotechnology, agriculture, sports, sugar industry, culture, health and tourism.

The visiting delegation was headed by Foreign Minister U Nyan Win, while the Cuban side was headed Marta Lomas, Minister for Foreign Investment and Economic cooperation, who thanked Myanmar for its support of Cuba in condemning the over-forty-year-old economic, trade and financial US blockade against the island.

During his stay in Cuba, the visitor has held official talks with Cuban officials and has visited places of scientific interest like the Center for Genetics Engineering and Biotechnology and the Center of Molecular Immunology.

The third session of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission will take place in Yangon, the capital of the Union of Myanmar, in 2009.
