India's Navy Chief visits Myanmar Islamic Republic News Agency / May 09, 2007 As part of measures to boost military ties with neighbors, Admiral Sureesh Mehra left on a nine-day visit to Myanmar and Singapore Wednesday.
During his stay in Yangon, Mehta would hold talks with senior officials of the Myanmar Military Junta on bilateral military cooperation, reported an official news website.
India has recently supplied Myanmar with two Islander Naval surveillance aircraft as well as smaller naval gun boats and light artillery guns.
Mehta is the second Navy Chief visiting Myanmar in recent years.
Earlier, former Naval Chief Madhvendera Singh had visited the key Myanmar naval base of Coco Islands, where according to media reports Chinese Navy have built a base.
After his visit to Myanmar, Mehta heading a high level Naval delegation, would pay a visit to Singapore to attend the International Maritime exhibition.
Indian Navy has sent two warships to take part in the exhibition.
