Overseas based Kachin National Organization, KNO, supports United Nations Security Council’s decision to put Burma on its agenda, saying this is the historic decision of UNSC on Burmese military regime to transform Burma as an internationally accepted democratic nation.
“On behalf of the Kachin people, the Kachin National Organization is grateful to all the free and democratic countries that are supporting this historic move by the UN Security Council to examine the situation in Burma,” said in the KNO statement released on September 20.
KNO express its hope that the decision of UNSC will pave the way for ‘Tripartite Dialogue’—involving democratic opposition, ethnic nationalities and military regime—which will ultimately lead peace, democracy and national reconciliation and snuff out desperate problems in Burma, according to the statement.
“The current Burmese regime has hidden too long in a cloak of darkness,” said in the KNO statement. KNO criticized the policy of Burmese military regime which cause all spectrum of hardship for citizens of Burma and even spill over its domestic problems to neighboring countries.
KNO was founded in 1999. The organization is a member of Ethnic National Council and its military wing Kachin National Army is allied with other ethnic resistance forces which are currently fighting against Burmese military regime.
