Junta Unhappy KIO Stand on UNSC Decision October 03, 2006

Burmese military government has been dissatisfied the political stand of the Kachin Independence Organization, KIO, on UN Security Council decision to put Burma on its agenda.
KIO, a major ceasefire organization in Burma, said that the organization prefer to keep focus on strengthening good relation with Burmese junta and participating in National Convention, instead of revealing it’s objection or approval on UN Security Council’s decision on Burma, according to a KIO central committee member Gun Maw.
At the end of last month, Burmese junta pressured all ceasefire organizations to oppose UN Security Council’s decision on Burma. Several ceasefire groups objected UNSC decision by publishing their statements in the state-run newspapers.
On August 26th, KIO sent a letter to headquarters of Burma Army northern command about its political stand on UNSC decision. However, junta reportedly unpublished KIO’s statement in their mouthpieces due to the KIO’s neutral position on UNSC decision.
On the other hand, Oslo based Democratic Voice of Burma broadcasted a news on August 29th that KIO welcomes UNSC decision by sourcing Kachin Independence Army Captain Awng San. Burma Army’s intelligence wing promptly contacted to KIO about the news. Gun Maw said, the views of Kachin Independence Army Captain Awng San are not reflected to KIO policy. The ceasefire organization already replied to Burma Army northern command that KIO policy is identical to their letter being sent to Burma Army.
Capt Awng San told The Kachin Post that he didn’t give official interview to DVB reporter Aye Naing whom he was talking on the phone a few days ago. He said there had been misunderstanding between he and Aye Naing. “I even asked Aye Naing not to use my name,” Awng San said.
