Kachin to Hold Revolution Day

Kachin in United States of America will hold 44th anniversary of Kachin Revolution Day on coming Saturday in California.

The ceremony was organized by U.S based Kachin Today group which broadcast Kachin language online radio service. The ceremony venue will be at Multi Service Centre, 40086 Paseo Padre Parkway, Fremont, California.

According to the Kachin Today’s invitation announcement, the groups hold the ceremony in honor to those who sacrifice for Kachin revolution as well as it supports the revolution message from president of Kachin Independence Organization and future Kachin national movement.

Several dozens of Kachin in U.S planning join the ceremony and other guest speakers will give speeches during the ceremony, said ceremony organizer Bawm Luk. The speakers and guests are Duwa Howa Ja La, Dr. Richard Deck form Alliance for Reform and Democracy in Asia, U Ko Ko Lay from Democratic Forces of San Francisco, Naw May Oo from Burmese American Democratic Alliance and Chin Woman Political Activist Mai Theingi Tun Than.

Kachin independence movement was launched by Kachin Independence Organization just after U Nu’s Rangoon government announced Buddhism as State religion in 1961. KIO was founded on February 5, 1961 by Zau Seng and his brothers Zau Tu and Zau Dan along with hundreds of Kachin youth in northern Shan State. On February 24, 1994, the KIO entered a ceasefire agreement with the State Law and Order Restoration Council, ruling military government.
