Catholic Representatives Left for World Youth Day in Germany August 17, 2005

Twenty of Christian pilgrims from Burma last Saturday departed to attend XX World Youth Day, which is held in Cologne, Germany. The Catholic Church’s mega event, which began on August 15 to 21, is hosting hundreds of thousands of youths around the world.
Nine Catholic priests and eleven youths left for World Youth Day as delegates from Burma. Two Kachin Catholic Priest: Father Michael Maran Hkun Seng and Myitkyina Diocese Youth Director Father Aung Dang get together with other pilgrims from Burma. Originally, 40 representatives of Catholic Churches in Burma were planning to leave for the events in Germany. At World Youth Day, young pilgrims participate in a weeklong celebration, which includes an opening ceremony, overnight vigil and mass with the Holy Fathers.
There are also opportunities to take part in Catechesis, the Way of the Cross, charity work and social service. The youth festivities include prayer, music and dance from all corners of the globe. This huge international gathering is held every two years in selected cities around the world.
