Kachin State National Congress for Democracy, KNCD, has condemned terrorized assassinations between Kachin political organizations, urging Kachin people to prevent and search out the culprit who practices evil manner.

“KNCD absolutely denounces all terrorized-assassination practices,” said in the statement released by KNCD on fifth of January 2005. “KNCD do not absolutely want assassination because of that is evil manner.” KNCD is the biggest Kachin political party in Kachin state and which won three seats in 1990 multi-party general election. However the party was outlawed by ruling military government in early of 1992.

Last year, two prominent bomb assassinations occurred in Kachin State. Both of them are believed to be related to Kachin Independence Organization’s, KIO, internal conflict. No individual or organization claimed of responsibility. On Feb, 26, 2004, deputy chief of Staff of the Kachin Independence Army Col Lazing Bawk was killed by a bomb blast in a toilet of his house in Laiza, a town adjacent to the Chinese border. On December 10, a bomb hit the vehicle of the leader of New Democratic Army-Kachin, NDA-K, another ceasefire group in Kachin State. NDA-K leader Zahkung Ting Ying narrowly escaped from the explosion.

KNCD believes that assassinations would have been made for splitting between political organizations, as well as personal and organizational grudge, which based on business interest, fuels to assassinate each other.
