Kachin Meeting Pending, Urged Lasang Awng Wa to Come

The Kachin Post

December 07, 2004 — Meeting between Kachin Independence Organization, KIO, and its splinter groups has been pending after holding an hour discussion yesterday, according to KIO.

Dr. Tu Ja, KIO vice chairman II, said KIO is urging Col. Lasang Awng Wa to come and will send an invitation letter to him. “I would like Lasang Awng Wa to come,” said Dr. Tu Ja. “We don’t see any satisfactory solution would reach without Lasang Awng Wa.”

Yesterday meeting yields no result because Lasang Awng Wa was absent. Delegates of the splinter group proposed KIO to invite Kachin community leaders in this meeting. However, KIO leader said the meeting is within the organization and will invite community leaders in additional meeting.

Today, KIO central committee members are discussing to hold meeting with Lasang Awng Wa for the practical procedures of KIO unification. Dr. Tu Ja said, “we can only make decision with Lasang Awng Wa.”

According to the November 12 meeting agreement, the unification of KIO would be accomplished before the end of December 2004. I don’t think KIO can make on time to match with the last month decision, said Dr. Tu Ja.
