October 25 — Kachin Independence Organization, or KIO, said it would join the National Convention, which is planning to hold by Burmese military government in early of 2005. KIO general secretary Gunhtang Gam Shawng gave promise to Burma Army northern commander Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe during their meeting on October 23 in Myitkyina, Kachin State.
October 20 — Leaders of New Democratic Army-Kachin Zahkung Ting Ying, Kachin Independence Organization’ deputy chairman I Lanyaw Zawng Hkra and Burma Army northern commander Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe attended the opening ceremony of Myitkyina- Tengchong road. The ceremony held in Kambaiti, Kachin State.
October 12 —, Kachin Independence Organization deputy chairman II Dr Tu Ja general secretary Gunhtang Gam Shawng and New Democratic Army-Kachin leader Zahkung Ting Ying met in Yinjiang, China to discuss the problem within the KIO.
October 7 — Kachin youth from five Churches in Chiang Mai, Thailand, held a soccer tournament on October 3 to make a good relationship amongst Kachin youth. The venue is the compound of Bobby Morse missionary school in Chiang Mai.
October 5 — Many Kachin youth are becoming drug addicts in recent months, due to the conditions of easy to get drugs in Myintkyina and its suburb area and, local authority’s loose restriction on the drug retailers. Many elders are worried about the problems.
